General English exams

The following exams are designed to help you in life; to act as evidence of your level of English in all common situations.

A2 Key, formerly known as Cambridge English: Key (KET), is a Cambridge English qualification at A2 level on the CEFR. It shows that you you have made a good start in learning English and can use English to communicate in simple situations.

B1 Preliminary, formerly known as Cambridge English: Preliminary (PET), is a Cambridge English qualification at B1 level on the CEFR It shows you are able to use your English language skills for work, study and travel.

B2 First, formerly known as Cambridge English: First (FCE), is a Cambridge English qualification at B2 level on the CEFR. It proves you can use everyday written and spoken English for work or study purposes.

C1 Advanced, formerly known as Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE), is a Cambridge English qualification at C1 level on the CEFR. It shows that a student has the language ability to carry out complex research, and communicate effectively at a professional level.

C2 Proficiency, formerly known as Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE), is a Cambridge English qualification at C2 level on the CEFR. It is our most advanced certificate and proves you have achieved an extremely high level in English.

Academic English exams

The following exam is designed to help you gain entry to a UK university.

IELTS is accepted as evidence of English language proficiency by over 8,000 organisations worldwide. Last year, more than 2 million tests were taken globally. IELTS is recognised as a secure, valid and reliable indicator of true-to-life ability to communicate in English for education, immigration and professional accreditation.

Professional English exams

The following exam is designed to help you prove your level of English to your employer.

Linguaskill is a quick and convenient online test to help organisations check the English levels of individuals and groups of candidates. It tests all four language skills: speaking, writing, reading and listening.

If you need to work with colleagues or customers around the world in English, it is important that you are able to measure and support your communication skills.

Two test options are available, Linguaskill General and Linguaskill Business, depending on whether the job role requires everyday English or English used in a business and corporate setting.

Results are fast and accurate, provided within 48 hours, and aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), the international standard for describing language ability.
